“God is not a belief to which you give your assent. God becomes a reality whom you know intimately, meet everyday, one whose strength becomes your strength, whose love, your love. Live this life of the presence of God long enough and when someone asks you, “Do you believe there is a God?” you may find yourself answering, “No, I do not believe there is a God. I know there is a God.” ~Ernest Boyer, Jr. (Thanks, Ann)

in this fray

What I'm finding, as I process all this too-big stuff of elections and politics? I grasp only the outside edges. My heart aches at the desperation I hear - and feel inside me, too. What if it goes wrong?! Well, I still know what I'm doing, who I'm for (no politician claims my heart and life). What if everything does go wrong? Who is it on the throne? It is the King of Kings! Will there be reverberations in my life, in my family, in my town - well, how much worse can they be - I ignore the ache and horrors all about me in this world every day, anyway. And how much better can they be? My hope is built on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.

Jesus, show me my place in this fray. Thank you for being the same, in the calm and the storm. Speak to me in a language I can hear and understand - I want a tender heart - quick to obey. While I pray for truth to be known and for my countrymen to cling to mercy and vote to protect the helpless and call the able to accountability - in all this, show your glory.

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteous;
No merit of my own I claim
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. -James 4:14 NIV

And anyone who gives up his home, brothers, sisters, father, mother, wife, children, or property, to follow me, shall receive a hundred times as much in return, and shall have eternal life. -Matt 19:29 TLB
